A useful photo is a stock-control reference
A market trader selling vintage tableware may have several cups with similar names but different handles or patterns. A colleague helping on Saturday can compare the item in front of them with its stock record instead of asking the owner to identify every piece. A hardware shop faces the same problem with fittings that look almost identical in a list.
Use a photograph that shows the relevant difference. Keep size, material or model information in the product name where needed. Items whose quantities must be tracked separately need separate records; a photo does not introduce size-and-colour variants or serial-number tracking.
Add a product photo from your phone
- Open the product creation or editing screen in the iOS or Android app.
- Choose the camera or photo library and grant the requested device permission.
- Crop the picture square, leaving important edges and identifying details visible.
- Check the preview and save the product.
- Let the upload and synchronisation finish before checking another device.
Consistent lighting and backgrounds make a list easier to scan. Avoid including delivery labels, customer addresses or paperwork behind the item. One clear reference photo is more useful than a crowded picture of everything on the stall.
Prepare before working without a connection
An offline stock record and an offline photo are not the same thing. The device may already hold the product name and quantity but not its image. Cached pictures can be reused; a first download still needs internet. Check the products you expect to use while connected rather than assuming that installing the app has downloaded every photograph.
Replacing a photo also needs synchronisation before colleagues see the new version. Saving a local change does not mean the upload has reached the server.
Show customers a selection, not your internal records
With Plus or Pro, use the images in a shareable product catalogue. Choose the products and public details separately. Customers do not receive your stock quantities or purchase costs, and adding a photo alone does not create a listing on eBay, Vinted or another channel.
