Begin with a precise question
“How is the business doing?” can refer to quantity, stock cost, sales value, customer receipts, supplier balances or expenses. Each depends on different records. Choose the question before the report and date range.
Use transaction dates rather than assuming the day a delayed device synchronised is the day the trade occurred.
Sales and cash should not be forced to match
A sale on account changes stock and the customer balance before money arrives. A later receipt reduces the outstanding balance without selling the goods again. Supplier purchases and payments have the same timing distinction.
When sales differ from bank activity, compare sales with receipts and purchases with payments first.
Excel is most useful downstream
An export supports a pivot table, accountant request, presentation or archive. It becomes risky if somebody edits it as a second current system whilst the app continues receiving operations.
Keep Salelog as the operational source. Correct a source record and create a new export rather than maintaining parallel truths.
A short export checklist
- confirm organisation, period and location;
- review cancellations and reversals;
- separate sales from receipts;
- inspect missing costs, prices or tax settings;
- open the file and verify decimal and currency display;
- remove customer or supplier data the recipient does not require.
